Vintage original 11 x 14" (28 x 35 cm.) lobby card, USA. Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong, Bruce Cabot, dir: Merian C. Cooper, Ernest B. Schoedsack; RKO. Since this was the film which brought failing RKO out of near bankruptcy in 1933, the studio would re-release it numerous times, producing new sets of lobby cards each time. The 1938 set was similar in border art to the 1933 cards, with a different title treatment and the addition of art of the three main characters at the lower right. This most desirable card depicts Kong breaking down the gates of the great wall which held him back in his primitive world as he enters a new world which will lead to his death.The 1938 release is notorious as the stringent Production Code had gone into effect a year after the film's original release. This necessitated various cuts, including partial nudity and scenes of violence. Those scenes remained missing for some 40 years and were thought to be lost for some time, but have all been re-instated so that today we have the full version as released in 1933. Vibrant color. Pin holes at each corner, as well as corner edge wear and rounding, top left corner missing paper. Creasing and light staining limited to borders only. Two pieces of tape on verso. FINE-VERY FINE.
